WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS

Winter Watercolor Landscape Painting with Robert O’Brien, AWS, NWS
Two-day Workshop, Saturday-Sunday, February 20-21, 2010

Class materials list
Students will explore light, shadow and values in this two day workshop. The focus will be the winter landscape. All levels are welcome. Students will do a value sketch prior to painting to better help them understand the relationship between color and
value. A critique will be held at the end of each session.

Fur, Feathers and Fins: a workshop with Robert K. Carsten, PSA, CPS
One-day, All-media Workshop, Saturday, June 12, 2010

Join us for a fun and educational day painting the marvels of our four- legged, flying or watery friends - domestic or wild. Whether it's your family cat or a wild cheetah, emphasis will be on learning how to quickly obtain the “arabesque” of our subjects as well as becoming facile at painting fur, whiskers, feathers, eyes and more. We will work from your sketches or photographs and learn how to paint lifelike presence into our subjects using dynamic composition, value control, and selective detailing. With friendly and helpful at-easel and group critiques, and lots of painting time, this workshop is designed to increase your painting skills and to show you why animal painting is
one of the most personally rewarding subjects. All levels and mediums are welcome. The instructor will demonstrate in pastel.

Painting the Winter Landscape in Oil or Pastel

Class materials list
All levels of experience are welcome but students should have some preliminary knowledge of their materials. This class will focus on developing #1.) the idea of the painting #2.) the shapes, depth and light in a winter landscape with an emphasis on form and design. Students will be encouraged to start with a simple "imagined" landscape and progress to working from reference photos. (Please bring your own winter landscape photos.)

Mindful Painting in oil
Wednesdays, 6-9pm
Six Weeks, March 17-April 21st

Learning to see is fundamental to all artists. This class is intended to encourage artists in a light-minded, fun approach. Our first class will explore the essentials in painting from the types of oil paint we use, the brushes we choose, mediums, solvents & the best support for our purpose. From here we will enter into the basics in color theory, the effects of light & dark values, form, shape & their relation to positive & negative space. We will paint from life exploring each of these concepts throughout the course of six weeks & will engage in weekly critiques. All levels are welcome & encouraged to join us.

Are you looking for an inspiring studio environment to work on your own projects? Bring your own materials in the medium of your choice and enjoy working alongside other area artists to jump start your creative process. This informal, drop-in group will meet Wednesday mornings on an ongoing basis. The group’s facilitator will be available to students to provide inspiration, and light guidance on projects, when requested.

Recycled Miniatures Extravaganza
Ages 8-12
Two-day workshop

Sign up fast, as space is limited to six participants.
Delve into the fascinating world of miniatures in this two day workshop. Create your own imaginative miniature room where match boxes become chests of drawers, thread spools turn into side tables and bottle caps become lamp shades. Learn to use what is around you to crate a scaled down space, may it be a castle, a mouse house, or replica of your home, the possibilities are endless!

Under the Sea in Watercolor

Maximum Enrollment: 12
Come make a splash in this one day workshop. Learn new watercolor painting techniques while creating your own imaginative underwater world. Your world could include mermaids, submarines, sea monsters, schools of fish and coral reefs. The possibilities are endless! This workshop will include a snack break at which time we will share enchanting stories from under the sea to ignite the imagination.

Ages 8-12
Mondays, 3:30 – 5:00 running February 22 – April 2

What do old socks, records, plastic bottles and wrapping paper tubes have in common? They are all perfect art materials! In this class, we will create art using found objects. Have fun creating functional bowls, wacky creatures, robots, and wearable art while learning about artists who have been doing this for decades!

Far out in the Far East
Ages 8 – 12
Mondays, 3:30-5pm, April 5-May 10th (excluding April 19th during school vacation)
$30 members / $35 non-members (includes materials)

Max. enrollment: 12
Join in the fun as we Study the fascinating artwork from the continent of Asia. Create your own paper lanterns. Learn the ancient art of origami to and make colorful chains of folded paper animals. Study the works of celebrated Asian artist and poets and who create haikus and paintings using ink and rice paper, then create your own. You won’t want to miss out on this!

** Some classes will require students to leave the LAC studio. Students will not leave the studio without parent/guardian permission.
