Newport Winter Carnival

Monkey Scavenger Hunt!

presented by the Library Arts Center

How it works:

1)  Find the Monkeys!  Go on a hunt to find the 10 monkeys hiding all around downtown Newport!  Travel around town by car or by foot, and go at your own pace.  The Giant Inflatable Monkeys will be “hanging” around town on Sat. Feb. 13 and Sun. Feb. 14 during the festivities for the Newport Winter Carnival.

The contest is open to families, children, and adults of all ages!

2)  Name the Monkeys!  Show us that you have completed the hunt by filling out the online form below with the NAMES of all 10 monkeys (Names of monkeys may be found on their “nametags”).

3) Prizes!  The first 20 people to successfully name all of the monkeys will win a special gold coin, and GRAND PRIZE!  ALL of the entrants with the correct monkey names will be entered into a drawing to win a crisp $100 bill!

Monkey
CLUES

Here are your instructions & Clues below:

Life is a Circus, so they say!
Join in the fun, and help us look!
The monkeys escaped the circus and ran away,
Just like in a circus book!

Some are near and some are far
For some you might need to be in a car. It’s mostly a walk, so wear a coat.
Bundle up, and be a star!

Help us please, don’t let us down.
Time to bring the monkeys back to their home.
There will be prizes for those who do.
Don’t let these monkeys roam!

Each monkey has a darling name
Write each down, and where we’ll find them
But leave them there for the circus ringmaster
As they may bite, they aren’t that tame!

The first twenty people to come to our aid
Will win a golden coin, for the call to help they obeyed!
All those who help will be entered to win
An impressive cash prize, a bill with the face of Benjamin Franklin!

Clue #1:

There once was a school,
But not any more;
Walk up the steps,
But not in the door.

Look all around
For the very first one
Hanging right there,
Just waiting for fun!

Clue #2:

Deep in the winter
When there is ice,
We skate in this place
When the weather is nice.

Then later on
When we get cold,
We start for the hut
To warm up our soul.

Clue #3:

Time to go now
To a Newport gem
Where books abound
For those who want them.

Go up the front walk,
Find the monkey there,
Sitting and waiting
For someone to dare.

Clue #4:

Look in the window
of a shop that sells posies,
Right on the corner,
And bouquets of rosies.

Look for the monkey
And write down its name;
Isn’t this fun?
Now on with this game!

Clue #5:

Do you like country music?
News and talk?
Time to cross over;
Use the crosswalk!

Look in the window,
Find one more,
Listen to the music,
But stay outdoors!

Clue #6:

Right in the middle of Downtown
There’s a beautiful garden there;
Right in front of the bakery,
Right in the open air.

Look in the tree
In the middle of where
The flowers usually grow;
Find the monkey there!

Clue #7:

Down behind Main Street
There’s a park right there.
There’s a playground,
A place to run and where

Children used to bounce and play
On horses in the round,
That causes it to still be called
Horsey Park. It’s found!

Clue #8:

Another Newport gem,
A place where people go
To see a play or concert
Sitting in a row.

As you approach that building
Just look down low and up high
There’s rows of bannisters there
And the monkey, waiting nigh!

Clue #9:

Down by the high school
There is a caring little church;
The monkey is hiding there,
Sitting on a perch!

Right by the front door
Look down and see it now,
The little monkey waiting
Chilly in the snow.

Clue #10:

A golden eagle sits atop
A Newport eating place.
We go there and eat yummy food
When we celebrate!

Walk right past to the bridge
With the Sugar River passing under,
The monkey is playing around on the railings
watching the water below in wonder.
