Yoga on the Common

NEW!  Socially Distanced Outdoor -All Levels Yoga – Fridays, 8:30-9:30 am

Now Meeting OUTDOORS on the Newport Town Common

All Levels Welcome
Instructor:  Brianna Renner
Location: Newport Town Common (directly across the street from Library Arts Center–N. Main St. Newport, NH 03773)

We are so excited to be bringing in-person yoga back to our programming in addition to the wonderful online classes Brianna has been offering during COVID-19 with this outdoor class right on the town common.  This socially distanced class will adhere to all current regulations for in-person yoga classes during COVID-19.  Brianna will keep all participants aware of these regulations to ensure that everyone is able to safely enjoy in-person yoga classes again.  This class is designed for any student looking to practice yoga. Movement will be linked with breath (as offered by the Hatha and Kripalu traditions of yoga), as well as focus on alignment, and attention paid to honoring your own organic movement. Students can expect to practice both seated and standing poses as well as focus on balance and breath.  Please bring your own mat and any props you would like, as sharing supplies is discouraged at this point.  With understanding that many people are experiencing economic hardship due to COVID19, the Library Arts Center is offering full and partial scholarships to participants in need of such help to make it possible to partake in this class.

Please email info@libraryartscenter.org to start a discussion about a scholarship if needed.  As this is an outdoor class, please note it will be canceled if raining, and an online class will be offered instead.  Online purchase passes are available for touchless payment for this drop-in style class, or pay in cash when you arrive.

Recommended Guidelines we will be following, based on recommendations from the CDC and State of NH Re-opening Task Force:

  • Class will meet outdoors for maximum ventilation and airflow.

  • No gear will be shared among participants.

  • Students will be asked to stay in their own space.

  • Most yoga mats are 6 feet x 2 feet. I’ll ensure that everyone is spread out so that all mats have at least 2 feet in every direction so that they are at least 8′ apart.

  • Masks are optional, but not required.

TO REGISTER for YOGA CLASSES at the Arts Center:

1) Fill out a LIABILITY WAIVER at least once annually.

2) PAY for either individual sessions or a four-class pass. (Online HERE or at the door.)

This class is appropriate for all levels of students–from beginner to advanced–looking for a slow, steady, and purposeful practice. Variations and modifications to all poses will be offered, as well as attention paid to safe body alignment and use of gear / props. Breath work, meditation, gratitude, guided rest, and mindful movement are all offered as part of this practice.

Cost:

$12 per session, for single session or drop-in

OR

$40 for a four-class pass

(Class passes may be used for any four yoga classes at the Library Arts Center in 2020).  While pre-registration is not currently required, it is most certainly appreciated to allow us to plan for classes in this new season.

Equipment:

We recommend that participants bring their own yoga mats, and any other needed equipment.   There are a limited number of mats and blocks available for use from the former Buttonwood Yoga Studio that may also be used free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.  Shared equipment is highly discouraged during the COVID-19 Pandemic.  Equipment for communal use will not be provided during this time.

Liability Waiver:

All participants will be asked to sign a release of liability at least once annually to be able to participate in yoga at the Library Arts Center.

Location:  Library Arts Center Gallery  | 58 N. Main St.  Newport, NH  03773

Classes will take place in the Library Arts Center gallery unless the nature of the current exhibit on display (sculpture, craft exhibit, etc.) makes it impossible to do so.  During these seasons, class will take place at our 15 Main Street Location in Downtown Newport next to Bar Harbor Bank & Trust.  During the COVID-19 Pandemic, classes are only meeting outdoors on the Newport Town Common.  No indoor classes will be held until the Library Arts Center’s facility re-opens.
